Barcelona – A Mediterranean Must See

A highlight on any cruise to the Mediterranean, this jewel by the ocean will leave you longing for more.

We recently featured Barcelona as destination over on our Instagram account (@goandcruise), highlighting it as one of the best ports in the Mediterranean. Many will board their Med cruise in Barcelona and some will pass through, but how best do you spend your time in this beautiful city?

The city effortlessly merges the relaxed feel of the seaside and the dynamism of a large city. The fact the city sits on the sea allows visitors to take their pick of activities that suit their interests. If you’re in to history, there’s plenty. Love your food, you’ll be spoilt with the markets and restaurants. Want to relax, you can head to the beach.

Antonio Gaudi is synonymous with Barcelona and his unique architecture is on display across the city. It’s possible to spend a whole day visiting locations where his influence can be seen, such is the impression this master had on the city. La Sagrada Familia cathedral is the undoubted centrepiece with its design unlike that seen elsewhere.

As you walk through the city don’t be surprised to see the colours of FC Barcelona on display as the city is also home to one of the most important football teams in the world. Sports lovers will find it easy to visit their fabled Nou Camp stadium, one of the largest in Europe.

If it’s not the beaches, food, history or architecture that grabs you here, you can simply take a stroll down the fascinating Las Ramblas that links the seafront with the city centre. You’ll marvel at the street entertainers and feel the buzz of this magical street.

Want to know more about how you can make the most of your time in Barcelona? We’ve found a terrific article over on the One Day In A City Blog. Gina, the author of the blog, provides a great overview of some of the places we’ve mentioned along with others we haven’t covered.
